A bit of background on why this piece was written before we start. I had just been copying and pasting various previously published nounish writings into ChatGPT 4, asking it to apply the ideas in the writings to existing models. One of the models was Maslow’s Hierarchy of Needs. The idea was to find out what the Nouns ecosystem (the DAO, the IP, etc.) needed to reach its highest potential and to some extent, determine what that highest potential was, though the brunt of the work was done by 4156 in the piece I used as the prompt input “The Nouns Virtuous Cycle.”

Here’s what output:

After sending this chart out into the Twittersphere, Joshua Fisher replied with some feedback: “Not sure it’s the correct model to envoke as I’m not sure a pyramid is the right structure. Curious what other models could be applied?”

Taking Joshua’s feedback into consideration, I went back to the drawing board.

Finding a Model to Help Understand the Nouns Ecosystem

Circling back to the initial dialogue with the AI, I input Joshua’s feedback and asked it to generate a series of alternative models to better understand what makes up the Nouns ecosystem and more than that what might make it reach its potential stated in The Nouns Virtuous Cycle.

Here’s a list of alternative models we could use, in case Maslow’s Pyramid wasn’t quite the right fit.

1. Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Model: Describing how different environmental systems influence the development and function of the Nouns ecosystem.

2. The Network Model: Emphasizing the interconnected nature of the Nouns ecosystem.

3. The Feedback Loop Model: Highlighting how different components of the system impact each other in a continuous cycle.

4. The Ecosystem Model: Demonstrating the mutual dependencies between different components in the Nouns environment, like a biological ecosystem.

5. The Circular Economy Model: Showing how value in the Nouns system is recycled and reused in a sustainable manner.

6. The Spiral Dynamics Model: Borrowed from psychology, this could depict the evolution and maturity of the Nouns project, representing the unfolding stages of its consciousness and values.

7. The SWOT Analysis Model: To depict the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats in the Nouns ecosystem, often used in strategic planning.

8. The Venn Diagram Model: Showcasing the overlap and interplay between different key components of the Nouns ecosystem.

9. The Systems Map Model: This is a visual depiction of different parts of a system and their interrelationships. For Nouns, it could help explain complex interactions within the Nouns ecosystem.

10. The Flowchart Model: Depicting the sequential steps and decision points in Nouns' governance process or any other process-oriented aspect of the Nouns ecosystem.

I’ll admit, Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Model wasn’t the first on the AI’s list, but it’s what I personally found the most intriguing. The latter half of this list was less so, models and more so, just types of charts…so may not do a deep dive into those, but just use the charts to explain broader ideas. The Nouns Blockchain Review may unpack Nouns through the lens of any or each of these models in the future, but for now, I’m just doing what stands out to me.

The Nounish Bronfenbrenner's Ecological Model

Again, asking Chat GPT how this model applies to the Nouns ecosystem, here’s what it said; The Bronfenbrenner Ecological Model, also known as the ecological systems theory, is a comprehensive framework that can be used to describe how different environmental systems influence individual development. It breaks down the environment into five different levels:

1. Microsystem: The immediate surroundings of the individual. For Nouns, this could represent the immediate user experience and interaction with the Nouns protocol - buying, selling, voting, etc.

2. Mesosystem: The interconnections between the different parts of the individual's microsystem. In Nouns, this could represent how the various aspects of a user's interaction (like owning a Noun, participating in governance, etc.) interact with each other.

3. Exosystem: The environmental settings that an individual doesn't directly interact with, but still impact them. In the Nouns context, this could include external developments in the broader crypto world - regulatory changes, market trends, etc.

4. Macrosystem: The overarching patterns of the micro-, meso-, and exosystems. In Nouns, this could represent the broader cultural, economic, or societal trends that shape the way Nouns operates and evolves - like the overall trend towards decentralization in technology, or changes in how art is valued and perceived in society.

5. Chronosystem: The dimension of time, which considers both change and constancy in the individual and the environment. For Nouns, this could represent the evolution of the protocol, the community, and their broader context over time.

We’ve taken the AI’s output, punched it up a bit, and added it to the graphic below.
